Friedrich von Gärtner
Friedrich Wilhelm von Gärtner, the archrival of Leo von Klenze, served as architect for King Ludwig. Together with August Voit, he designed the Neue Pinakothek to house the royal collection of contemporary paintings.
Ludwig commissioned Gärtner to plan the building of the Bavarian State Library, which was erected between 1832 and 1843. It was the considered to be the most modern library building in Germany.
His other projects for Ludwig included the Siegestor (in imitation of the Arch of Constantine in Rome) and the Feldherrnhalle (inspired by the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence.)
