Karl von Fischer
In 1809 Crown Prince Ludwig appointed the architect Karl von Fischer as Königliche Oberbaurat (royal building supervisor) and directed him to plan a new area of Munich named after the King, the Max-Vorstadt (Max suburb).
This was to be a kind of garden city, landscaped by the court gardener, Friedrich Ludwig von Sckell. At its center was the circular Carolinenplatz (1810-33). It was ringed by twelve palaces of different design for Bavarian noblemen, including one for Crown Prince Ludwig.
Fischer died in 1820 at the age of 37.
