Joseph Karl Stieler
Joseph Karl Stieler (1805) by Friedrich Heinrich Füger
Joseph Karl Stieler is today best known of his iconic portraits of Ludwig von Beethoven and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. He was Hofmaler (court painter) in Munich from 1820 to 1855 and produced primarily idealized portraits: statesmen, artists, politicians, scholars, those in high society, and of course, the women of Ludwig's Beauty Gallery at Nymphenburg Palace.
